The Nylander Life

Where I Come From

I grew up in a small town in Sweden, and was inspired early on to design and create my own clothing.

I was mentored by my milliner grandmother and my aunt, who still tailors to the socialite and jet-set crowd.

However, it was only after studying at the prestigious Dance Academy in Stockholm and touring the world as a professional dancer —including two years in the Las Vegas show Splash II, plus numerous films, music videos and TV shows — that I founded Nylander LA.

It all started when I began designing a variety of stage costumes for my friends, all of them dancers and singers, many of who I'd danced with.

Because I was a dancer myself, I knew they wanted to wear onstage.

Where I'm At

One of my great inspirations is watching my husband, Carlitos Del Puerto, play with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Andy Garcia's traditional Cuban band, Cineson All Stars.

It's taken me to exciting new cities and landscapes. Whether it's glorious South Beach, the snow-filled Streets of Salt Lake City, or a small village in Italy, I try to soak in as much beauty as I can, which I hope you can see and feel in my work.

These days, I dance strictly for fun. But living in Los Angeles, with my bass-playing husband, there's always going to be showbiz around the house and in our world.
